These days, it seems as though you can’t even turn on the TV without being inundated by that golden instrument of advertising… product placement. It’s gotten to the point where practically the entire American experience has turned into one long sponsored event.
But come on, this is America. Our nation was founded on the dream of a better life, and how else are people going to know what that dream looks like if they can’t see their favorite brands seamlessly worked into the plot lines of their favorite shows? Besides it can’t be that bad? They’ve been doing it in TV and movies for years. Back in 1956, even National Geographic was in the business when their magazine was featured prominently in Around the World in 80 Days, and there’s no way National Geographic is evil, right?
From corporate sponsorships to brand fusion, we will explore how product placement deals are made and take audiences inside the minds of the ad men, researchers, market analysts, academics, and CEOs who have created, consulted, criticized, championed and continue to cultivate and develop the brands that shape our world today.
As we explore each branding partnership, we’ll learn the tools and requirements that go into creating the brave new world of brand synergy. The film will be both an instrument of, and an examination of how omnipresent advertising is in our lives. Along the way we are looking to reach out to street artists, fine artists, writers, directors and musicians to help define what are the barriers are between art and commerce.
